Precision Countertops – Customer Profile

Apr 19, 2006 | Customer Profile

Profile at a Glance: Established in 1985, Precision Countertops is the largest fabricator and installer of kitchen countertops in the Pacific Northwest. With locations in Portland, OR; Bend, OR; and Kent, WA, the company fabricates and installs laminate, solid surface, natural stone and Silestone quartz countertops.

The Problem: With production and installation spread over three locations, company growth outstripped its ability to efficiently track, manage and schedule jobs through its system of job folders, Excel spreadsheets and Outlook (for scheduling). Job notes and changes were recorded on the job jacket and followed the project paperwork through order entry, production, installations and final billing. Responding to customer inquiries about job status was a complicated and time-consuming process that required physically tracking down the project paperwork.

“It was challenging,” explains Steve Mast, sales manager for Precision Countertops. “It was difficult for everyone to go in and see what changes had been made to a job. Because the system required double and triple entry of information, it opened the door for mistakes and miscommunication. It had the effect of severely limiting our growth potential.”

The Moraware Solution:JobTracker makes it possible for Precision Countertops personnel to view job status, make changes, record any contact with the customer and monitor the job’s progress from any of its three locations. Data is entered only once in the single entry system and updated automatically as the project goes through all phases of production, installation and billing. Access to vital job information is instantaneously available and accessible from any Internet connection. It also enables multiple people to view and make changes to a project, while automatically creating a log of any contact the company has with the customer.

“The Change Log is pretty amazing,” says Mast. “You are able to see who and when any changes are made to the job. I also love having the ability to run reports. As sales manager, I am running reports on sales numbers, quoting, accounts, activities, sales by product, and pricing per segment. It is easy to extract and completely customizable.

“We looked at all the software options out there and we decided this was the best fit for our company,” Mast continues. “The folks at Moraware spend a lot of time and effort making sure their architecture is very open, and implement changes based on what people are asking for.

“We could not run our business without this program.”
