Hi there! I’m Patrick Foley, and I’m the newest addition to the Moraware team. One of my responsibilities is helping out with customer support, so if you call or email Moraware, you might reach me.
I’ve been a computer programmer and a consultant for most of my 22-year career, and I spent 6+ years at Microsoft as an "evangelist" (yes that was actually my title), helping other software companies. As part of that role, I attended several software conferences, where I met Ted and Harry, the founders of Moraware. We’ve been friends for about 4 years.
Last year I left Microsoft to return to consulting. I was fairly happy with the change, but I missed being part of a team. At the same time, Ted and Harry realized that Moraware was growing enough that they could use another team member to share some of the work. They wanted a "generalist" who could fill a variety of roles. Remembering the types of work I did for Microsoft, they said, "we need someone like Patrick … hey, why don’t we ask Patrick?"
Well I’m glad they did! I have a passion for software businesses (I’ve tried to create one myself, but it’s REALLY hard), and Moraware is a perfect fit for me at this point in my life. I’ve already experienced what it’s like to work for a 90,000 person company – it’s a lot different (and much more interesting) working for a 7-person company.
The most exciting difference for me is that I will be working very closely with customers. The only reason software is useful – the only reason you pay for it – is if it solve problems in your real-life businesses. I’m new to the countertop fabrication industry, but it’s fascinating to me. I love that it’s so specific, and I love that the goal of our customers is to create something beautiful and useful and lasting for their customers.
I’ll be working out of my home in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where I live with my wife and my awesome 10-year-old son, Gus. Since I’m in the Eastern time zone, you’ll start hearing back from us even earlier in the morning once I’m fully up to speed.
